Bakuan Gubat

The Bakuan Gubat (Carallia brachiata) is a native tree scattered all over the Philippines. Regarded by many as a natural Christmas tree, the Bakuan Gubat grows about 15 to 20 meters high with a diameter of 50 centimeters or more. Its bark is smooth and dark brown and the leaves are mainly terminal, which are darker green on the opposite side and green and lucid above. These trees bear yellowish-green flowers and subglobose, fleshy, lemon-yellow fruits that are about five to eight millimeters long.

Bakuan Gubat trees are generally valued for the wood they produce for making musical instruments and some construction work. Due to it’s form, these tree is also famous additions for gardens and landscaping.
